Great Budworth Church

Today is All Souls Day when we remember those who have died. Yesterday we had a special reflective service at St Mary's where we read out the names of those who have recently died and those whose names we were asked to remember. As the names were read out, candles were lit.All Souls gives us the opportunity and permission to do something that the world often rushes past, to stop and remember. When we remember our loved ones we are saying that their lives still matter, that love has not ended and that our relationship has not been erased by death.As we sat in church, we remembered that the church has been here for such a long time and the stones of the building have been hallowed by prayers, tears and laughter of many people.When the candles were lit, each flame was a small act of faith, a bridge between heaven and earth, between past and present, between memory and hope. Every name spoken, every face that was brought to mind was a reminder that we are part of something greater than we can see.In remembering, we say "You are still part of us, your story continues your love has shaped us and it still lives on.Packs were given out at the end with a bulb, tea light and sprig of rosemary. Today is All Hallows Eve, hallows meaning Holy and the day before All Saints Day.Join us at St Mary's tomorrow 8am Holy Communion.10.30 All Age Service for All Saints with craft and soul cakes after the service4pm we have our All Souls service which is reflective time when we remember those who have died. There is the opportunity of naming people and lighting candles.
